How can I overcome health-related discouragement?

A physical disability is another avenue through which Satan can attack your mind. He can whisper thoughts of anger, confusion, disappointment, and worthlessness in your ear until you begin to claim those feelings as your own. But, the Lord has a different plan in mind for you. His plans is to work ALL things, in your life, together for His good purposes (Rom. 8:28).

If you are a Christian, you can call on God for faith and courage when it seems like you cannot go on. Let Him replace your present disappointment with the hope of eternity. Ask Him to help you understand that in a few short "moments" your body will be perfect when you stand before Him. With that understanding, and with the healing He can bring into your life, He can then use you to positively affect others in your situation. He has a plan through all of this pain. If you can allow yourself to be healed, mentally and emotionally, then God can use you physically.

If you are not a Christian, now is the time to turn your life over to the Lord. Place yourself in His loving care and let Him wash you clean. The Bible says, "Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you" (1 Pet. 5:7). Helen Keller, who was both blind and deaf from an early age, is a classic example of the best way to cope with disability. She said, "I thank God for my handicaps, for through them I have found myself, my work and my God."

Read 2 Corinthians 4:16-18. Here you will clearly see that the afflictions and limitations that you may face here on earth are but for a moment and are part of a greater plan.
