In The Beginning

By Ron Graham

“In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth…Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good,” (in other words perfect) Genesis 1:1, & 31.  Perfect, that’s the way God made the Universe. God created Adam and then Eve to be Adams one wife, and placed them in a perfect environment, Eden. He gave them everything they would need to live and enjoy life. The beauty and splendor of that garden where they were to build a family is beyond our ability to comprehend, but it was perfect, and they were made perfect. They were created to live forever, never to experience illness, aging, or death. After God pronounced His creation very good, the Bible tells us He rested (which means Creation was finished), and began enjoying His walks in the cool of the day with His creation.

Shortly after the creation week ended we see another figure enter the garden, Satan, or Lucifer as he was known before his fall. Who created Lucifer? We find the answer to that question in the first chapter of The Gospel of John verses 1-3. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. Let’s place the proper name of our Lord in that last sentence of John 1:3. All things were made by Jesus the Christ; and without Jesus the Christ was not any thing made that was made. Lucifer or Satan is a created being, and since Jesus Christ created all things, He created Lucifer. I know, I know I’m taking the long way around the barn, but sometimes it’s necessary. There are some religious groups out there that apparently need to have the truth come down on them like a ton of bricks before they get it. At any rate this should put an end to the claim by the Mormons that Jesus and Lucifer are brothers. It should, but it probably won’t.

Now take a look at how our Lord Jesus Christ created Lucifer. You were in Eden, the garden of God; Every precious stone was your covering: The sardius, topaz, and diamond, Beryl, onyx, and jasper, Sapphire, turquoise, and emerald with gold. The workmanship of your timbrels and pipes was prepared for you on the day you were created. "You were the anointed cherub who covers; I established you; you were on the holy mountain of God; You walked back and forth in the midst of fiery stones. You were perfect in your ways from the day you were created, Till iniquity was found in you, Ezekiel 28:13-15.

We see by the verse above that Jesus Christ created Lucifer perfect. He was created to be the anointed cherub that covers, in other words he was the most perfect and beautiful angel ever created. He was the head over all the other angels. Lucifer was also given free will just as we have been given, and he chose poorly. Pride took over and Lucifer fell from grace. Satan became prideful, he wanted to be equal to God, and this is fully explained in the book of Isaiah.

"How you are fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How you are cut down to the ground, you who weakened the nations! For you have said in your heart:

I will ascend into heaven,

I will exalt my throne above the stars of God;

I will also sit on the mount of the congregation On the farthest sides of the north;

I will ascend above the heights of the clouds;

 I will be like the Most High”,

Isaiah 14:12-14. (We too must be mindful of pride taking over our lives; yes it can happen to any of us. “Pride goes before destruction, And a haughty spirit before a fall,” Proverbs 16:18.)

Eve was deceived by Satan in the garden; she ate of the fruit of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. Then she gave the fruit to Adam her husband and he also ate. Both made the choice to rebel against God. Sin entered in at that moment and the curse came upon the whole of creation. Paul the Apostle tells us: For we know that the whole creation groans and labors with birth pangs together until now, Romans 8:22

Man is in a fallen state right now; just take a look around, everything is falling apart and wearing out. The second law of thermodynamics is called entropy. It means that everything continually goes from order to disorder. For example, we see death and decay all around us - such as a human being or an animal dying and returning to dust. All this is the result of the curse on the whole of creation, because of man’s rebellion against God. Wars, senseless murders, and catastrophes that happen all over the world are all part of the curse. Tragically, God usually gets the blame for the death and destruction in this world, yet it’s mans rebellion against his Creator that has brought on all this suffering.

Because of Adam’s rebellion against God, all humanity inherits the sin nature which came through Adam. So, we are all sinners and fall short of the Glory of God. We need a Saviour, only Jesus Christ can reconcile us to the Father.

God is Holy and Righteous and can not allow sin into Heaven. We must be cleansed here on earth before we die in order to enter His Kingdom. Thankfully He sent His son into this world to die for our sins. Paul tells us that “Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned--For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord,” Romans 5:12, 6:23. God’s gift to mankind was the giving of His only begotten Son to die on a cross for our sins. Did this sadden the Father? Of course it did, but His love for us was so great that He was willing to stand by and watch as His Son was tortured, abused, and nailed to a cross, where eventually He died. What a gift.

The choice is ours - yours and mine. We can reject the prodding of the Holy Spirit, and deny Christ, or we can repent of our sins, and ask Jesus to come into our lives, and thank Him for what He did for us on the cross of Calvary. We must believe that He died, was buried, and arose from the grave on the third day. We must put our faith and our trust in Jesus Christ as the only way to salvation.

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9

The question begs to be asked, “Where are you going to spend eternity?” There’s really only one choice to make. Choose Christ and spend eternity with Him. There is no other choice. You must choose to follow Christ otherwise you will, through unbelief, spend eternity in Hell.

God Bless you all,
